Sävja Library

Do you have experience in library work and are driven to promote reading? Do you want to contribute to the libraries' work in developing and testing new methods to promote reading in the library space? In this position, you will be part of Library Uppsala. Library Uppsala consists of 13 libraries including a digital library, outreach activities with two library buses, two cultural centers, and an extensive program for all ages. The organization currently has over 100 employees. New libraries and new activities will be developed as Uppsala grows. In our work within Uppsala municipality, we make a difference and work together with the citizens in focus. Sävja Library is a well-visited library that attracts visitors of all ages and plays a vital role as a meeting place with strong local roots. Sävja Library is located in Sävja cultural center. Here, there are positive and engaged teams, with good collaboration with the local community and associations.

Your mission

In your role, you will work closely with your colleagues to make the library activities accessible with the visitor and Library Uppsala's mission in focus. You regularly participate in the regular staffing at Sävja Library. You meet visitors of all ages but have a specific focus on the adult target group and promoting reading. You staff with flexibility and readiness to support activities and colleagues when needed. If necessary, you reinforce during the implementation of activities and programs for children, youth, and adults. Your mission also includes contributing to the libraries' mission to test new methods to promote reading in the library space and its media. You also participate in common tasks in close cooperation with other colleagues. The position includes information services and evening and weekend work according to a schedule.

Your background

We are looking for someone with a university degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent education that the employer deems relevant to the position. To succeed in the role, you need to have experience working in public libraries and in promoting reading and building relationships. Knowledge of other languages and Book IT is considered a merit. The work requires IT skills and proficiency in Swedish and English.

As a person, you are a good analyst who is adept at seeing connections and solving complex issues and problems. You are a flexible individual who has the ability to see opportunities in changes. Furthermore, you take initiative and start activities to achieve results. You are also good at creating, maintaining, and developing work-related relationships. You have good collaboration skills and relate to others in a receptive and smooth manner. Last but not least, you are a service-oriented person who is calm, attentive, and accommodating in your approach.

About our organization

Welcome to the Culture, Sports, and Leisure Administration. The administration consists of six departments. Two departments are secretariats that work directly on behalf of the administration's management and handle matters for the cultural board and the sports and leisure board. The two secretariats are responsible for the strategic planning within the cultural board's and the sports and leisure board's areas of responsibility and prepare board matters. The secretariats also handle support and scholarships for the free cultural life, study associations, the sports sector, and associations in Uppsala municipality, as well as lead major projects. Four of the administration's departments are primarily responsible for the cultural board's own activities: Library Uppsala, Leisure Uppsala, Uppsala Art and Cultural Heritage, and Uppsala School of Culture.
